The practice of moneylenders among the community has became an hot issues in
Indonesia. A loan shark is a person who makes a living by investing money. In this
study, loan sharks took 12% -30% interest from borrowers. Many people think that
loan sharks can solve problems because they get loans easily and quickly, but what
happens actually adds to the problem. The presence of moneylenders in the
community is troubling for many people and many people do negative things because
they are in debt. The objectives of this study were (a) to measure the category of the'
understanding of money interest according to Deuteronomy 23: 19-20 (b) to examine
the stigma of the practice of moneylenders as loan sharks, and (c) to measure the
relationship between the understanding of money interest according to Deuteronomy
23: 19-20 with the stigma loan sharks as loan sharks. The research was conducted in
several places using the sample collection method, namely snowball sampling. The
research method used is descriptive quantitative research methods. Analyzing the data
using the product-moment hypothesis test through Microsoft Excel and SPSS 20. The
results show that the understanding of money interest according to Deuteronomy 23:
19-20 of the respondents who are in the high category are 18 respondents (32.54%),
who are in the sufficient category amounting to 17 respondents (31.55%). While
those who fall into the less category are 20 respondents (35.91%). Respondents who
have an understanding of the stigma of loan sharks as loan sharks with a high
category are 12 respondents (21.56%), 21 respondents (39.2%) in the sufficient
category, and 22 people (39.24%) with the low category. The value of determination
(R2) is 0.366 (36.6%). This means that the model used can explain the variation in Y
value (the stigma of moneylenders as loan sharks) of 0.366 or 36.6%. The remaining
63.4% is influenced or explained by variables other than the understanding variable
of money interest according to Deuteronomy 23: 19-20 in the study.
